David took time to explain that a website can be something as simple as the internet equivalent of a paper brochure (a single static page with simple text and photographs), moving on to building a website with additional functionality such as forms (the simplest being a contact form), a blog (a website for people who like to post articles or photographs for example and receive comments on said blog) all the way through to a dynamic website (for example a website that uses a database to add extra functionality such as members areas, galleries, blogs, forums, online shops etc).
Using the Weebly website Dave created a test website to show how to build a new site by adding columns of text, images, add new pages to the website, the creation a blog, how to create a gallery to display our photographs, change the website design, how to add video footage to the website and numerous other items that could be added to our websites as our confidence grows. Davids most influential piece of information for the night however was to plan the website out on a piece of paper first so we know exactly what the website should contain.
At this point the room was buzzing and the questions started to flow and Dave tried his best to answer all questions but in the end decided it would be best for the members to first try and build their own website and if they had any queries to give him a call or email him and he would respond ASAP.
This is a decision he may live to regret............
Garvin: 'Dave I'm trying to build a new website on Weebly but I'm finding the mouse really hard to control with the dust cover on?'
Dave: 'Garv, have you been spending money again and bought a new mouse?'
Garvin: 'Yeh, how do you know these things?'
Dave: 'Have you taken the new mouse out of the bag it came in yet?'
Garvin: 'Ermmm'
