Mayfield Studio is a warehouse style. bright, 35002 ft photo studio fully kitted out with lighting equipment, studio props and a range of backdrops including an infinity cove, black room, grunge wall and an area lit by natural daylight.
After Dave and Alan gave an introduction to the layout of the studio, its facilities, equipment and props available, the group split into pairs and were given the opportunity to practice their skills in each of the zones/disciplines, each with a different model.
At this point, special thanks should be given to Sarah, Bev, Caitlin and Jessica who volunteered to be our models for what turned out to be long albeit enjoyable day. Although they did not have experience of modelling, their contribution towards the success of the day was enormous. They worked tirelessly, with patience, humour and without complaint throughout, even helping out by making and serving light refreshments for the worn out photographers.
Everyone was given the opportunity to work in turn with each model in each of the zones and in a number of situations. They were a let loose to utilise varying lighting effects, backgrounds and props to produce a variety of images in a wide mix of styles from close up portraits, full body poses and actions shots through to off the wall images that were taken with spontaneity and a sense of fun.
Throughout, Dave and Alan were available to offer assistance and advice as required, enabling everyone to get as much out of the facilities on offer in order to hone and develop their skills. This was no easy task as experience of the club members present ranged from the complete novice through to the experienced and proficient.
Although this was an all day event, the time passed quickly, all too quickly for some. At the end of the day, we held an informal debrief to discuss what we had gained from the experience and any lessons to learn. The general consensus was that the day had been an outstanding success and we might all be back there in the not too distant future
