was without a doubt the way last night’s guest speaker, Canadian photographer Anna Pasechnick Ridley, showed us her images. Anna has only been taking photos for the last 6-7 years but the collection she displayed last night would put a much more experienced photographer to shame. Starting with one of her first images, that of a duck, Anna took us through her images, showing a refreshing attitude of “I liked it, and if someone else did, all the better” rather than taking an image with the aim of impressing a judge. Starting with a selection of bird photos, she then introduced the club to the world of macro flower photography, rarely showing the whole flower, instead concentrating on fine detail. Anna then showed a selection of images which made up only a small part of a Photo a Day project which actually ran for 3 years and only ended with the birth of her daughter. She explained that the project was a means to hone her photographic skills, rather than only attempting to remember them each weekend. We then moved onto one of Anna’s favourite subjects, landscapes, and her favourite place for taking them, St Mary’s Lighthouse. Anna showed some breathtaking images, taken at all times of the day, not just during the “Golden Hours”. We then got to see Anna’s quirky, creative side and how her visits to the local craft shop had garnered her plenty of props to use in a small studio setting, and we were introduced to her “other” family, a collection of wooden artist mannequins and their secret lives, caught for all to see. Anna finished off her fantastic show with images of the reason her PAD project ended, her daughter Alyssa, proving that she can turn her hand to just about any photographic subject.
