Although the recent winter weather has provided a plethora of material, this did not prevent the submission of alternative and imaginative interpretations of the chosen theme.
Alan Thompson opened the evening with another of his audio visual shows comprising of winter scenes of the Newcastle area interwoven with sound effects, music, slick animation and humour.
This was followed by an eclectic mix of excellent images ranging from a landscape of moon-rise over the sleeping giant earth mother 'Northumberlandia', which preceded spectacular views of the snow capped mountains and glaciers of the Austrian Alps, candid shots of a couple of unwary ladies caught in a blizzard , macro photographs of ice crystals, intricate mosaics made from coloured ice cubes, through to the simple visual delights of an ice cream shop display. The variety seemed endless.
Each image was accompanied by a description of how it was taken, the techniques used to capture the image and how any problems encountered by photographing the chosen subjects were overcome.
As is usual, the images were of the highest standard and demonstrated the broad spectrum of skills, abilities and imaginations possessed by the group.
Now bring on June when the chosen theme will be the opposite of tonight’s subject, namely Heat.
