Washington Wetland Centre - April 2013
"Lift Off" by Alan Thompson
It was a cold and overcast start to the day, but that was probably better than expected as we new rain was on it's way. Fortunately it's only 20 minutes away from the Westmoor camera club and on arrival we all made our way down to the bird hide where we tried our best to capture a few birdie shots. After 90 minutes or so Dan, Craig and Michael headed off to get some shots around the centre whilst Dave and I made for the cafe for a hot coffee and muffins.
Coffee over, we set off for a lap around the centre, but unfortunately for us by the time we got there the otters and chilean flamingos decided it was time for a siesta. Thank god the ducks stayed out to play, especially the Manderin who is without doubt the one of the most photogenic ducks I've come across. At this point we got a bit trigger happy, 4 or 5 hundred shots later we decided to leave or we'd never get these procesed before christmas.
All in all I it wasn't a bad day, the rain stayed off, the coffee and muffins were champion and I think most of us got some half-decent shots to make the outing worth while, it's certainly a place that we'll be visiting again in the future.
